Framework on provision of rehabilitation services in the WHO South-East Asia Region, 2025
Rehabilitation is an essential and often underappreciated pillar of public health. Across the WHO South-East Asia Region, an estimated 630 million people – one-third of the population – will require rehabilitation services at some point in their lives. This need will only rise in the coming years, driven by ageing populations, the growing burden of noncommunicable diseases, injuries, and the health impacts of climate change and emergencies. Anticipating this growing demand, the WHO South-East Asia Regional Office has developed the Regional Framework on the Provision of Rehabilitation Services. The framework is a step forward in ensuring rehabilitation is no longer seen as a secondary or specialized service, but as a core component of Universal Health Coverage, and as an integral part of resilient and people-centred health systems.
